Urinary incontinence is a dysfunction that affects the lives of many people. It is seen predominantly in women. There is more and more research on this dysfunction as the numbers of complains from the afflicted patients grow. There is no consensus among physicians, however, on how to approach this problem. The U.S. Government through the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research issued a clinical practice guideline "Urinary Incontinence in Adults: Acute and Chronic Management" to set some basic standards for the treatment of this affliction. Also, the International Continence Society, under the direction of its president Dr. Paul Abrams (Bristol Urological Institute, U.K*.) established that the urinary incontinence should be considered a disease rather than a dysfunction. This statement indicates seriousness of the problem. Despite these steps, there is not enough of information available to general public. The purpose of this site is to inform and educate those interested in urinary incontinence. I hope that what you learn here will help you or your loved one to:
Remember: although urinary incontinence is perceived to be an old age problem, IT IS NOT. Give yourself some time to recover from it. Give yourself, your doctor and your treatment a chance. Persistence and determination are the key. You owe it to yourself and you deserve it. Good luck, Dr. Andre A. These three medical institutions did the original trials of this device for the European approval. In Bristol the trial investigator was Mr. (Dr.) Mark Wright -- junior colleague of Mr. (Dr.) Paul Abrams - President of International Continence Society. Both of them were the students of Dr. Roger Fenely -- the legend of urology and an active advocate of the development of new incontinence treatment methods.
